The Best LEGO Sets Over £200

Hello LEGO lovers and brick builders everywhere! Thanks for joining me as I dive deep into the final ‘The Best LEGO Sets’ list I am going to be writing here on the Firestar Toys blog. This is one which is going to be filled with a little bit of dreaming for me, as I currently don’t have the space or income to purchase many of these – so think of this as my ‘LEGO Lottery’ list, if you will!

As with my previous blog posts I wanted to pull together a strong overview of a handful of different sets which will appeal to different types of LEGO fan, so hopefully there is something here for everyone. If you have a favourite from this set, or if there is something else which you feel should have made it onto the list, let us know in the comments below! Without further ado, let the drooling commence…

LEGO Titanic

The story of the Titanic is as synonymous with our spirit of adventure as it is with tragedy. Whatever your feelings are on this particular vessel, it is undeniable that the Titanic has carved its place into history. LEGO’s recreation of the iconic vessel is gorgeous – with the right balance of colours alongside a series of unique string pieces which help to capture the iconography of this passenger liner.

The most surreal thing to me is how much this model feels like a wooden boat model – showing how much craftmanship went into realising this design.

Eiffel Tower

Following on from the Titanic is another mammoth of a LEGO set also in the ‘Icons’ series – the Eiffel Tower. Coming with 10,001 pieces, this gigantic LEGO build is a true testament to just what can be achieved with the building bricks we all know and love. What I love most with this build are the unique and creative building techniques used to achieve the wrought iron girders seen throughout the structure.

Looking at this model from afar you would be hard pressed to guess that it’s made out of LEGO – and that is a true testament to the phenomenal job the designers did crafting a set. I won’t mince my words – if you’re a LEGO fan looking for an iconic centrepiece for a room, this is it.

The Lord of The Rings: Rivendell

The Lord of The Rings Saga rightfully holds a place within popular culture as one of the largest novel collections written by Tolkien – and their movie adaptions did an incredible job of bringing the world of Middle Earth to life. LEGO have delved into that world before, but never with the level of detail and architectural prowess which can be found in the Rivendell set. From the gorgeous, almost mosaic-like tiling work on the roof of the structure here, to the builds used to bring trees and vegetation to life, this really is a premium set.

If you’re a fan of the LOTR franchise, then this is an incredible way to bring one of the most iconic locations from that franchise to life. This is where the Fellowship was born, and they can be born again on your shelves in their LEGO forms thanks to this phenomenal set.

LEGO Ideas Home Alone

One of the most iconic movies of all time, Home Alone sees young Kevin go face to face with the Wet Bandits in a house filled with homemade traps. On paper it sounds like a fun LEGO build, but it’s not something I ever imagined actually seeing – so I was delighted when this LEGO Ideas set won some time ago. There are so many fun details packed straight into this set which translate some of the most fun (and goofy!) moments from the screen into our plastic bricks.

I have to admit, the ability to recreate the iconic Kevin mirror scream is a favourite of mine here. Pair this with the fact that the actual build here is a really nice house with an aesthetically pleasing design and lots of smart part choices, and this is an Ideas set which I think you will regret not picking up! Plus Christmas is around the corner and this is from a Christmas film – so what better time to pick it up?

Avengers Tower

A Marvel set on one of Tom’s list blogs? Shock horror! It shouldn’t be a surprise that I am a huge fan of the MCU. When the Daily Bugle and Sanctum Sanctorum were announced I knew it was just a matter of time until we received a definitive Avengers Tower – and the set released as a part of the most recent Marvel lineup does not disappoint.

This set is packed full of iconic moments from the movies – from Hulk smashing Loki, to Captain America admiring America’s studs. This build even packs in a Chitauri Leviathan, and a bunch of lovely unique minifigures including Kevin Feige and Alexander Pierce. Pierce in particular is a nice addition here given we never got sets from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This set encapsulates the iconography of the MCU perfectly and is hands-down the one set on this list I would buy in a heartbeat if I could. LEGO…if you’re reading this…hook a Marvel fan up?

Lion Knights Castle

I feel like there is something decidedly English about loving a good Castle – and I love the Lion Knights Castle. I remember when this set was revealed some time ago it came out of left field, providing fans with the first classic castle set in some time. And boy oh boy, did this set deliver in so many ways.

Not only is this set packed full with a detailed and highly accessible interior, but it also includes a wonderful assortment of unique medieval characters to populate it. Even better than this, in my opinion, is seeing a classic-design LEGO castle realised with modern building techniques. So many of LEGO’s new and innovative pieces create a truly awe-inspiring build here. I’m going to go out and say it – this is the best a LEGO castle has ever looked. But it isn’t the only LEGO castle on my list…

Disney Castle

Anyone who is a 90s baby will recognise the absolutely iconic Disney Castle. It was silhouetted at the start of every Disney animated film I watched as a child, and has always been the centrepiece of the Disneyland Parks. It’s fair to say that the Castle is nearly as synonymous with Disney as Mickey Mouse himself.

The current ‘Disney Castle’ is LEGO’s second rendition of this imposing structure, and it’s even better than the first version they released. I love how the evolution in building techniques since the first iteration of the castle has massively evolved the design on show here, and also love the choice to use so much sand blue around the front of the building. Add in small details like the fireworks attached to the side of the castle and this really is a set fans of Disney will dream about.

Land Rover Classic Defender 90

The Land Rover Defender might be one of the most well-known off-road vehicles to ever make an appearance on the market. If you live in the UK, then this vehicle is especially well known for how often it can be found on farms and in the more rural parts of the country. Not only does LEGO’s model capture the shape and style of this vehicle perfectly – but it’s packed full of cool details.

I adore the number of accessories which come with this vehicle – from the Jerry Cans and Shovel, to the optional snorkel and spare wheel. I’m a huge fan when construction sets can be personalised, and this is a fantastic example of that – packing in a ton of cool options which you can switch out to make your own unique version of the Rover. If you’re a fan of motor vehicles then you’ll want to pick up this set!

Tree House

Last but not least is one of the most gorgeous Ideas sets which I think has ever been created by a LEGO fan – and I’m willing to be quoted on that! I am, of course, talking about the Tree House – a gorgeous set which perfectly blends architecture and nature in a unique modern interpretation of a classic idea.

There is so much to love in this build. The rope bridge and telescope add some lovely character to the set, and I think the seating area at the base of the tree was such a neat addition. My favourite thing here, however, might be the ability to switch to Autumnal foliage – allowing you to change and adapt this build throughout the year. As I say, this is a set that’s retiring soon – so don’t sleep on it if it’s piqued your interest!

That’s it for this series of ‘Best Of’ blog posts – but there will be plenty more to come from me in the not-so-distant future. For now, I hope you have possibly discovered some new LEGO sets you never considered purchasing, and are feeling more confident in what you might want to buy for other people – especially with Christmas around the corner.

I love LEGO because there is something for everyone, and I think that has shown throughout this series of posts. Whatever kind of collector you are – whether you keep your LEGO in the box, display your sets on a shelf or come up with your own creation, enjoy shopping for new sets, and happy building!
